AVAYA News - Avaya Wins Enterprise Connect's Mock UC RFP Competition

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Avaya (News - Alert) has emerged at the top in the recently concluded Enterprise Connect’s mock Unified Communications (News - Alert) or UC Request for Proposal competition. The results of the competition, along with the evaluation and scores, were released during Enterprise Connect 2012.

As part of the mock RFP competition, participants had to generate a proposal for an imaginary client, who required a completely novel implementation of voice and unified communications software and hardware for 2,000 end users.  With an average score of 91.8, Avaya’s response was three points ahead of the company in the second position. Some of the key factors on which the vendors were scored include functionality, architecture, pricing and RFP compliance.

The best nine responses from participating companies were considered and averaged over three different scenarios. While the first scenario was leaning toward voice with 10 percent of the users being approved for UC, the second scenario included all users approved for voice and UC. The third scenario, which is similar to the first scenario, included the use of softphones and mobile clients instead of conventional IP phone sets.

In a release, David Chavez, CTO of Worldwide Sales at Avaya said, “Every day, Avaya and our partners meet the real-life customer represented in the Enterprise Connect (News - Alert) Mock UC RFP competition. Our commitment to ‘the Power of We’ includes listening to customers and building solutions based on their needs for the highest level of flexibility, reliability and security with the broadest range of capabilities and best value for the price. At the end of the day, it’s the real-life advantages of faster collaboration, smarter decisions and better business results that Avaya brings to their table.”

Broad demarcation, as well as commonalities across vendor submissions, were observed by David Stein, principal at Stein Technology Consulting Group, during the evaluation presentation session. While a majority of the vendors provided Android (News - Alert) support to their mobility offers, a huge gap in UC and some voice capabilities was however noted.

Stein said, “While we saw good responses from each of the vendors in one or more particular scenarios, Avaya’s scores are a result of a strong responses to all three coupled with more aggressive pricing than in previous year.”
